Dasha Redkina

Dasha focuses her energy on expressing herself, whether it is through photography, film or music. Her sets range between deep and jacking house, to old school and contemporary techno, delivered purely on vinyl, as she remains a lover of her heavy record bag despite the new trend of digital sound performances. Her musical path began with Dasha playing old Russian tales on vinyl, at the age of 3, on her families old gramophone. Enticed by the rustling sound of the needle she will always store in her memory. During her teenage hood she went through the typical merry-go-round of music genres- from rock, to hip hop and a few more we might sometimes be embarrassed to mention. Finally after this vast range, she eventually refined and established her certain musical interests. At the age of 16 Dasha set out to conquer Brighton to discover all its musical enticements. Having spent her childhood in a private girls’ school in a British countryside, as an eastern European girl she could only strive to some fun, so escaping at nights and exploring the party scene in the gay capital Brighton was the tingling contrast to her school days, and fueled her desire to bloom within her interests. Being a regular at jackinacidiscotech parties of the Stompaphunk crew, she quickly got the insider perspective and made a decision to try herself on the other side of the dancefloor. Looking for part time work as a student and being mad into collecting vinyl records, Dasha started working in a record shop after school- A humble private record store, barely able to pay her wage, and with only three employees. As financial means were scarce Dasha was happy to accept her pay in the form of records, as this is what she had spent her money on anyway. After school came Uni, and she began to study Sound and Film. It was an important mile stone, as she acquired a closer relationship to the technical side of music: Exploring sound much deeper and learning to manipulate it, create it and apply it, she was expanding her understanding of music and its purpose. In the meantime, at night, her on goings led to her first gig at a down to earth warehouse in London- Urban Nomads was a concept consisting of 24 artists squatting an abandoned mansion on the edge of London. To Dasha it seemed their mind set was completely different from most people in that city. She saw people creating art, installations, sculptures, playing instruments, and throwing parties every Sunday in a cosy atmosphere. The vibe there was exceptional. It carried Dasha in the right direction, and continued her path of expression. After attending those parties almost every Sunday, she finally got to play. Years passed and Dasha committed herself to collecting, listening, playing and writing music. Little by little the gigs came rolling in and she was seen to play in Berlin (Watergate), Ibiza (Underground), Barcelona (Sonar festival), Valencia (Electrosplach festival), Romania (Sunwaves festival), Kiev (Gogolfest). Loving to spend hours in record shops all around Europe, Dasha gathered a selective range of music. Always listening to current and old, filtering with her taste and refining her ear. As well as spinning vinyl, she is also a visual artist, having finished Sound&Film course at university, currently working on various film and video projects and as a photographer for Petre Inspirescu´s label Yojik ConCon. https://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/dasharedkina
